Michelle Williams in Talks to Join Hugh Jackman in ‘Greatest Showman’

Michelle Williams is in talks to join the cast of the upcoming musical film The Greatest Showman opposite Hugh Jackman, according to Deadline.

The film will follow the life of P.T. Barnum, who founded the traveling circus that would eventually become the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. Jackman has been a part of the project since 2009 and is set to play Barnum. Zac Efron is also reportedly in talks to join the film.

Michael Gracey, known for directing commercials, is directing the film. The script is being penned by Michael Arndt, who is best known for writing Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Toy Story 3, and Little Miss Sunshine. Justin Paul and Benj Pasek, who were Tony Award nominees for the musical The Christmas Story, wrote the music for the film.

The Greatest Showman will be the first original musical film on over twenty years. The last original musical film was 1992’s Newsies, which starred a young Christian Bale.

Williams recently finished a stint on Broadway in Blackbird. She can next be seen with Casey Affleck in the film Manchester By The Sea, which hits theaters November 18.
