‘Space Jam 2’ with LeBron James in the Works

Twenty years after Space Jam’s release, it looks like the sports comedy film will finally be getting a sequel.

Justin Lin, who is known for his work on multiple films of the Fast & Furious series and is directing the upcoming Star Trek Beyond, is co-writing the script for Space Jam 2 along with Andrew Dodge and Alfredo Botello, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Lin is also reportedly in negotiations to direct the film.

Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James is in talks to star in the new film. In the original Space Jam, Michael Jordan teams up with the Looney Tunes in a basketball match against some alien slavers to help them win their freedom. The 1996 half animated and half live action film grossed $225 million worldwide.

If James decides to sign on for the film, it won’t be his first film role. The NBA player appeared in Amy Schumer’s Trainwreck last year.
