The studios behind the latest Godzilla film have decided to team up once again. This time it will include another famous movie monster.
Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. have decided to have Godzilla face another giant in King Kong.
While the news isn’t entirely new, it was only confirmed that the monster franchise will include Kong in a stand alone film called Kong: Skull Island. Skull Island is set to be released on March 2017 and it will star Tom Hiddleston, Samuel Jackson, Brie Larson, and John Goodman.
It was only a matter of time for the studios to drop the news that “Gojira” will take on the king of the jungle. The only details released about the film is that it will be released in 2020 with the title Godzilla vs Kong.
Legendary CEO Thomas Tull released a press release saying “Audiences really responded to Godzilla…As a lifelong fan of these characters, I’ve always wanted to see the ultimate showdown, and today we’re pleased to be announcing that and more.”
Warner Bros. CEO and Chairman, Kevin Tsujihara, stated that “Working with our partners at Legendary, we enjoyed tremendous creative and commercial success with Godzilla. It’s great to be able to revisit these characters and help create a franchise with so many creative possibilities for filmmakers. Fans love these big, globally iconic films and it doesn’t get any bigger than this.”
Monster villains King Ghidorah, Mothra, and Rodan are also set to join the monster universe.
