The memorable red lipstick that the late Latin Tejano star Selena Quintanilla was remembered for may soon be available for purchase at a MAC Cosmetics near you. After a Selena fan started a petition for her favorite singer to have her own makeup collection thousands soon began to join the movement by creating fan art of the lipstick being sold at MAC stores.
Thanks to the help of over 38,000 fans signing an online petition, MAC Cosmetics posted on Instagram Thursday, “Like the legend herself, Selena Quintanilla’s fans are an inspiration to us all for their love and enthusiasm.”
Selena’s sister Suzette Quintanilla hinted at the possibility of a makeup collection during a speech last year and will be involved in putting the final touches on the collection. “I am so excited that MAC Cosmetics will be releasing a collection in honor of my sister Selena,” said Quintanilla. “Helping to create this collection brings me back to all those late night conversations on our tour bus when she spoke of having her own makeup line one day.”
She added, “If Selena were here she would be beyond ecstatic to have this happening. History is being made.”
“Selena’s talent and beauty, inside and out have left a colorful, meaningful impact in the world that has continued to grow over the last two decades. We have heard the passion and enthusiasm from her fans and wholeheartedly agree that her legacy embodies MAC’s philosophy. We are so excited to announce a Selena inspired MAC Collection debuting in the later part of 2016,” MAC Cosmetics Senior Vice President James Gager released in a statement.
As of right now there has not been any official pictures released of any upcoming products and the company has not set an exact date as to when the collection will be released.
