‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Soundtrack to Be Released on Cassette Tapes

In Guardians of the Galaxy, Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill frequently listens to his 1970s mixtape on a Sony Walkman. Now you will be able to enjoy the Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1 soundtrack in the same way.

The soundtrack, which features songs by the Jackson 5 and David Bowie, has already been released as a digital album, on compact disc, and on vinyl. On November 17 it will become available on a limited-edition cassette tape. This release marks the first time Disney has issued a soundtrack on a cassette tape since 2003.

The cassette version of the soundtrack will only be available to independent retailers associated with Record Store Day until until supplies last or December 31. Each cassette will include a digital download version of the album.

The Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack is currently the tenth best-selling album of 2014, with 543,000 units sold. Guardians of the Galaxy is the highest-grossing film of the year, earning over $687 million worldwide. The movie heads to DVD and Blu-Ray on December 9.
