Leonardo DiCaprio Declines Steve Jobs Role

Leonardo DiCaprio will no longer be taking on the role of Steve Jobs in the upcoming film about the Apple co-founder’s life.

DiCaprio had been in talks for the part, but pulled out of the project in order to be a part of the upcoming western drama film The Revenant, which begins shooting this week. The 39-year-old actor could have chosen to film the Steve Jobs film after wrapping up The Revenant, but sources say DiCaprio is planning to take a long break from acting.

The currently-untitled Steve Jobs biopic, which will be adapted by Aaron Sorkin from 2011’s Walter Issacson’s 2011 book Steve Jobs, has already encountered a few setbacks. When Sony first optioned the film in 2011, the studio had selected David Fincher to direct, and Christian Bale was the top choice to play Jobs. However, Fincher left the project, and Sony turned to Danny Boyle to direct. Boyle wanted DiCaprio to star.

With DiCaprio’s departure, Bale is now reportedly being considered for the lead role again, along with Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and Bradley Cooper.
