Hope Solo Pleads Not Guilty to Domestic Assault Charge

Two-time Olympic gold medalist Hope Solo entered a not-guilty plea after police claimed she assaulted two relatives.

Allegedly, Solo attacked her sister and 17-year-old nephew at their Seattle area home early Sunday morning. According to CNN, police responded to a 911 call clamming there was an intoxicated woman who wouldn’t “stop hitting people” and had refused to leave the home when asked.

According to a police affidavit, when officials arrived on the scene they found Solo’s nephew’s nose and left jawbone region inflamed and red, along with the sister with a swollen left check bone that was beginning to turn purple.

The nephew claims that Solo had insulted his weight and called him crazy, which lead to an exchange of vulgarities ending with Solo charging at the boy and getting into an altercation.

As stated in the affidavit, when Solo’s sister walked in, Solo proceeded to attack her. The nephew then grabbed a wooden broom that he “broke over (Solo’s) head” in an attempt to stop the assault. When Solo continued to strike her sister, the nephew grabbed a broken BB gun and pointed it at the soccer player in an attempted to get her to leave the house.

Solo left, but then jumped a fence and re-entered the home where she proceeded to attack her sister again.

As stated by a document filed by Solo via CNN, the soccer player claims she did not attack anyone, and that she was the victim in the assault that occurred after she called her nephew “fat and unathletic” and that he hit her over the head with a broomstick.

Solo’s lawyer spoke on the matter, stating, “Our investigation reveals that Hope was assaulted and injured during the unfortunate incident. We look forward to the opportunity to present the true facts in court and to having this matter behind hope very soon.”

Solo has been ordered to avoid contact with her sister and nephew and to withstand from drinking alcohol.

A pretrial hearing is set for August 11th.
