‘Brady Bunch’ Star Ann B. Davis Dies At 88

Actress Ann B. Davis, best known for her portrayal of housekeeper Alice from “The Brady Bunch,” died Sunday at the age of 88.

Davis passed away at a hospital in San Antonio, Texas where she was being treated after hitting hit her head from a fall. According to Bishop William Frey, a friend of the actress, Davis suffered a subdural hematoma and never regained consciousness.

Actress Florence Henderson, who played mom Carol Brady in the TV series, released a statement on her Facebook page.

“I am so shocked and sad to learn that my dear friend and colleague, Ann B Davis, died today. I spoke with her a couple of months ago and she was doing great.”

Known for her witty one-liners and trademark blue uniform, Davis’ character Alice was always known for her cheery attitude.

Davis originally planned to attend medical school at the University of Michigan before going in to acting. Her breakout role was that Charmaine “Schultzy” Schultz, a secretary on the 1950’s sitcom “The Bob Cummings Show.” She won two Emmy awards, two additional nominations for best supporting actress and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960 for that role.

In 1994 she released “Alice’s Brady Bunch Cookbook,” which included recipes from the show as well as her own written memories from appearing on the popular TV sitcom.

Davis once said about her character in an interview, “All of us wish we had an Alice. I wish I had an Alice.”
