Following a change in British law allowing same-sex marriage, Elton John and his partner David Furnish are currently planning a low-key wedding for May.
During an interview with NBC’s Today Show the singer stated that, “We’ll do it very quietly. But we will do it and it will be a joyous occasion and we will have our children.”
While the two have been in a civil partnership since 2005, they still prefer to be wed.
“For the legislation to come through is joyous and we should celebrate it. We shouldn’t just say ‘Oh, well, we have a civil partnership, we’re not going to bother to get married.’ We will get married,” said John.
During a separate interview with the Las Vega Review-Journal, Furnish expressed, “I think what we’ll do id go to a register office in England in May and take the boys with us, and a couple of witnesses.”
The couple has two children, Zachary, three, and Elijah, one.
Same-sex marriages became legal for the first time in British law on Saturday, when a new marriage law came into effect.
