Warner Bros. has officially set Chris McKay to direct Lego Movie 2. Deadline broke the news that co-directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord will now be producers for the sequel while Michelle Morgan & Jared Stern will write the script.
McKay’s previous credits include the television shows “Robot Chicken” and “Titan Maximum” for Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim. He was also the animation co-director for the first Lego Movie.
The sequel’s plot is being kept secret and very few details on the film’s production have been set in stone since the release date is years away. The company is contemplating a spin-off film that would broaden the LEGO world and focus on a character named Ninjago.
The Lego Movie, which opened last month, grossed over $361 million worldwide. The Lego Movie 2 is currently set to open in theaters on May 26, 2017.
