Deport Justin Bieber Petition Receives 100,000 Votes, White House Must Respond

Less than a week after pop sensation Justin Bieber was arrested, a petition with signatures from more than 100,000 people has been signed to have the native Canadian deported back to his homeland.

The petition reads, “We the people of the United States feel that we are being wrongly represented in the world of pop culture. We would like to see the dangerous, reckless, destructive and drug-abusing Justin Bieber deported and his green card revoked. He is not only threatening the safety of our people, but he is also a terrible influence on our nation’s youth. We the people would like to remove Justin Bieber from our society.”

More than likely, Bieber’s arrest will not affect his immigration status, for the U.S immigration law states that authorities cannot revoke an individual’s visa unless that person have been convicted of a violent crime or sentenced to more than a year of imprisonment.

Bieber is currently living in the U.S on an O-1 visa, a visa granted to anyone with “extraordinary ability or achievement” in their field. Under this visa, Bieber may be sentenced to a maximum of six months, a fine of $250 to $500 and 50 hours of community service. Also, since the Baby singer is under the age of 21, he will face an automatic six-month license suspension.

According to Ira Kurzaban, an immigration attorney, Bieber is “not subject to deportation because of a DUI offense, nor is driving with an expired license a deportable offense.”

Bieber’s court date has been scheduled for February 14th.

At this time, the White House has yet to respond to the petition.
