‘Frozen’ Chills Box Office For Second Week at #1

Last week, the soundtrack to Disney’s latest film Frozen stormed its way up to No. 1 on the Billboard 200, knocking Beyonce’s self-titled album down to No. 2 and ending three consecutive weeks of chart domination . The soundtrack remains in the top spot on the album chart this week, after selling 5,000 to 10,000 more copies than expected. Since its release, Frozen has managed 589,000 copies sold in seven weeks.

The last soundtrack to rule the Billboard 200 was from the film Dreamgirls, which spent two weeks at No. 1 in early 2007. The last animated film soundtrack to rule the charts was the soundtrack to Disney’s animated film The Lion King, which roared at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for 10 nonconsecutive weeks in 1994 and 1995.

The Frozen soundtrack debuted at a lowly No. 18 on the charts when released on Nov. 27, 2013.
