E.L. James, the author behind the best-selling novel “50 Shades of Grey,” revealed over the weekend that Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson will play the roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, respectively, in the book’s upcoming feature film.
“The gorgeous and talented Charlie Hunnam will be Christian Grey in the film adaptation of ‘Fifty Shades of Grey,” James revealed via Twitter.
Hunnam is best known for his role as Jax Teller on FX’s “Sons of Anarchy” and has appeared in numerous films, including Green Street Hooligans, The Ledge and Pacific Rim. The 33-year-old actor will play 27-year-old Christian Grey, a billionaire who finds romance with college student Anastasia Steele.
The role of Anastasia Steele will be played by “Ben and Kate” star Dakota Johnson. The 23-year-old actress is the daughter of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith. She has previously played minor roles in The Social Network, 21 Jump Street, and The Five-Year Engagement.
“I am delighted to let you know that the lovely Dakota Johnson has agreed to be our Anastasia in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey,” the romance author announced via Twitter Monday morning.
Fifty Shades of Grey is expected to begin filming in October with Sam Taylor-Wood at the helm. A release date of Friday, August 1, 2014 is currently scheduled with the studio.
