Yes, I am being forceful with that title. But I mean it. This movie seriously needs to be on your “must see” list this year.
Let’s get the plot business out of the way. “Instructions Not Included” is the story about a single dad raising his daughter (mom abandons them early in the story) while both do their best to grow up. Sure, you’ve heard this story line before, but you haven’t heard (or seen) it told by EXTREMELY popular director/actor Eugenio Derbez.
If you are from Mexico, you probably know who this guy is. If you don’t, you will.
Derbez is so famous in Mexico, his wedding ceremony was televised on national television. True story. He is married to actress and singer Alessandra Rosaldo.
Back to “Instructions Not Included.” The movie is subtitled, yes. Don’t be afraid.
The movie is powerful. The movie is full of emotions. The movie is also something that many can relate to in this day of not so traditional families.
I had the chance to talk to Derbez about the film. The interview is below. I told him I fully expect him to win awards for “Instructions Not Included.” Derbez teared up, gave me a hug and thanked me. I was VERY serious about what I said.
A promise was made between us. My promise to him was to tell as many people about this film and how much I liked it.
