Brandy was set to be the surprise act for the grand finale at the Nelson Mandela Sports and Culture Day in South Africa, but it was such a secret that fans had no idea she would be performing.
By the time Brandy stepped onto the stage, the 90,000 capacity stadium was basically empty! Only 40 people remained, how awkward!!
South African musician Kabomo tweeted, “Brandy performed to an empty stadium. With the stadium lights on.”
Thousands of fans were in the stadium for the football and rugby matches, but most began to dwindle out as the music festivities began. After performances from David Jenkins, Elvis Blue, Salif Keita and D’Banj, there was almost no crowd left to welcome Brandy.
Fans thought that was it for the night, and unknowingly exited the building before the finishing act. Brandy supposedly came out to the empty stadium, sang her two songs then walked off the stage. Poor girl! If only fans had known…
A rep for Brandy told the NY Daily News, “Brandy was not going to South Africa to headline a show, she was there for a cause and was only scheduled to sing two songs as there were other performers ahead of her.”
