“Broadway Idiot,” a documentary that chronicles Green Day’s journey to adapt music from their 2004 album American Idiot into a Broadway production, is heading to the big screen on October 18.

The movie follows frontman Billie Joe Armstrong’s transition from the world of rock to the stage of Broadway as he collaborates with Tony Award-winning director Michael Mayer to bring his vision of American Idiot: The Musical to life.  “Broadway Idiot” gives viewers an inside look to the show’s development, dress rehearsals, performances and more.

“We are thrilled to be working with FilmBuff to bring the labor of love and dedication that is Broadway Idiot to everyone across the country in theaters and across all digital platforms. It’s like bringing Billie Joe Armstrong and Broadway right to your doorstep,” Doug Hamilton, the director of “Broadway Idiot,” announced in a statement.

Green Day’s seventh studio album American Idiot was released in September 2004 and a commercial success worldwide, peaking at number one in 19 countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom.  The album spawned numerous successful international singles including “American Idiot”, “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” and “Wake Me Up When September Ends”.
