Next year NBC will host the 66th Primetime Emmys. Instead of broadcasting the awards ceremony at its regularly scheduled date in September, NBC has once again decided to move television’s biggest night to August.
NBC has scheduled the Primetime Emmys in August the last two times it has hosted the awards show. The reason for the network’s preference for earlier air-dates is to avoid a conflict with its most watched primetime program, Sunday Night Football. In 2006, NBC gained rights to air Sunday Night Football and the network does not want to have to pick between the two ratings magnets since the NFL season always kicks off in early September.
One source says the TV Academy has decided on an August 24 air-date, but the date has not been confirmed.
This year’s show will air as scheduled in September on CBS on September 22 with Neil Patrick Harris as host.
