With the announcement of Jay Leno leaving the ‘Tonight’ show, and Jimmy Fallon taking Jay Leno’s position, Jimmy needs a replacement for his show as well.
Now it has been announced that Seth Myers will be replacing Jimmy Fallon at the 12:35 a.m. Late Night time slot next year. Myers and Fallon both worked on Saturday Night Live together and shared the “Weekend Update” desk. Both Fallon and Myers are moving up within the network in the late night department.
With Myers replacing Fallon, the network is excited for Myers to attract a younger audience to the show.
“We think Seth is one of the brightest, most insightful comedy writers and performers of his generation,” said Bob Greenblatt, NBC entertainment chairman. His topical comedy is “perfect for the ‘Late Night’ franchise,” Greenlatt added.
Myers has been an SNL cast member for twelve years and has been the head writer at SNL for eight seasons.
The late-night show began with David Letterman in 1982. Since Letterman’s departure, Conan O’Brien, Jimmy Fallon and now Seth Myers will have hosted the late-night show.
