Star Wars creator George Lucas is planning to open an art museum in San Francisco to showcase digital design and animation used in Hollywood. The design won’t be of your typical art museum, rather a place where visitors can explore “cultural fantasy.”
“You either look at the world through cynical eyes or through idealistic eyes,” Lucas told CBS This Morning. “I don’t see anything wrong with having an idealistic, sentimental, fun point of view.”
The long-time collector has amassed such a large collection of artwork over the years that exhibits could be rotated every six months for the next six years. Over a 1,000 pieces are reportedly in his collection; some of his favorites include pieces by Maxfield Parrish, N.C. Wyeth and Norman Rockwell.
There is no official date or location for when the museum will be opened or built, but Lucas has expressed interest to build it on a piece of land overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge. The Walt Disney Family Museum is built nearby the Golden Gate Bridge in The Presidio of San Francisco.
Since Lucas sold his company LucasFilm to Disney last year for $4.05 billion last year, he has stated that the museum is now his main focus.
“It’s my big project right now. There’s a world of young people who need to be inspired.”
