Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 has reached the $1 billion mark quicker than any other entertainment release in history. In December 2011, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 surpassed James Cameron’s Avatar as the fastest entertainment property to reach $1 billion in sales. Now that record has been broken once again.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 reached $1 billion in sales in only 15 days on the shelves, a day quicker than Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. The record setting pace started from the game’s launch when revenue climbed to $500 million on opening day. Sales for Activision’s best-selling franchise has now surpassed the worldwide box office earnings of the Harry Potter and Star Wars franchises.
Downloadable content for the game has helped catapult Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 to it’s record breaking pace. Activision has released four downloadable map packs for an additional $15 each to extend the game’s content. If you’re looking for a discount, Activision has bundled all four map packs in their Season Pass for $49.99.
