It’s official! Mariah Carey is the newest edition to the celebrity judging panel on FOX’s American Idol.
The announcement was made in Beverly Hills this afternoon at the TV Critics Association Summer Press tour. Carey is reportedly going to earn $12 million for her first season, the same amount Jennifer Lopez made her freshman year.
With Steven Tyler gone and Randy Jackson possibly leaving the show, an assortment of celebrities are trying to claim their seat on the judging panel. Adam Lambert, Charlie Sheen, Aretha Franklin have all shown interest in joining the show.
American Idol will return to FOX next January.
