The Amazing Spider-Man broke first day opening records on Tuesday with $35 million at U.S. and Canadian box offices.
Transformers held the previous record when it opened on July 3rd, 2007 and brought in $27.8 million. The movie’s distributor, Sony Pictures Entertainment, is estimating domestic ticket sales of $110 million to $120 million from Tuesday through Sunday. Sony spent about $215 million to make the film.
The Tobey Maguire-led Spidey franchise grossed around $2.5 billion at global box offices over the course of three movies, starting with 2002’s Spider-Man.
