Blake, Adam, and Anders will return in one week for “Workaholics” season three. The hilarious trio behind America’s favorite telemarketers sat down for questions about the new season, releasing some more information on the show. Adam DeVine admitted that this season will have to do with serious issues including obesity and finding new drug dealers, “stuff that the youth of America and the young adults of America really wanna know.”
Having started out on Youtube under the title “mailordercomedy,” Adam thanked the old days for helping them find their “comedic voice.” “We owe it all to Youtube,” Anders added, since Comedy Central saw their Youtube channel and gave them a show. Adam remarked that he thinks they’re “relatable to people in college or in their early 20’s,” which adds to the success the show has enjoyed.
Being co-writers of the show as well, Anders Holm said how they “come up with the ideas.” He continued saying, “We all just kinda sit in a room and we have a couple staff writers and we just talk ideas around, tell stories about things we had done, or stuff we wish we did.” With a ratio of 65% script to 35% improv, there’s room left for even funnier dialogue than what was originally thought – depending on the episode. Blake Anderson said that the inspiration for the episodes come from “real life stories or exaggerated times of their lives.” But overall, they want to show what they think is funny that they’d like to see on television. They also make sure they’re hitting on subject matter that is absent from others such as their favorites: “Louie,” “East Bound and Down,” and “Community.”
When asked about their characters, whose names are almost completely identical to their own, Adam responded that “they’re kind of based on real exaggerated versions of ourselves, but I’m actually dumber in real life than I am on the T.V. show.” The character Waymond also “comes back in a big way” in season 3. Adam also mentioned that they’re “just a group of really good friends that just have a lot of inside jokes and luckily were ambitious and wanted to make comedy and were able to put it out there. Now everyone out there is in on the inside joke.”
When asked about staying positive with the relatively darker topics that arise, Anders explained that “I think that people identify with people that are good natured.” “When you really think about it,” Blake added, “the ‘Juggahos’ know how to party.” With a final word on the new season, Adam said it is “the funniest and most outrageous season we’ve ever done, and I’m not just saying that.”
The new episode, “The Business Trip” will air on Comedy Central at 10:30/9:30c on May 29th.
