Country singer Martina McBride will sing the national anthem during pre-race ceremonies at the 96th Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, May 27 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The singer announced the news on her website on Wednesday.
“I am extremely excited that the Indianapolis Motor Speedway has invited me to this year’s Indy 500,” McBride said. “It is a huge honor to sing the national anthem at what is known as ‘The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.'”
“We welcome Martina McBride to IMS to perform ‘The Star Spangled Banner’ shortly before the engines fire for the 96th Indianapolis 500,” said Jeff Belskus, Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corporation President and CEO. “Her unforgettable voice and stage presence will add special meaning to this tribute to our country and the veterans who have served it with great dedication and sacrifice.”
Known as the “Céline Dion of Country Music,” Martina McBride is a four-time CMA Female Vocalist of the Year and has sold over 18 million albums worldwide.
